Because he has only a few lines of dialog, particular care was taken to find a vocal talent who could capture and quickly communicate the robust, handsome qualities of Snow White's highborn suitor. Harry Stockwell, father of actor Dean Stockwell, provided the voice.
In an effort to develop the film visually as much as possible (and thus avoid costly production overruns), Cinderella was shot scene-for-scene with live actors. This footage was then cut together with the soundtrack, and viewed by the animation team to determine any weak story points. Helene Stanley was the live-action model for Cinderella.
Cinderella's Prince Charming is actually the only Disney prince to be named Prince Charming. Snow White's prince is just called the Prince; Sleeping Beauty's prince is Prince Phillip. Ariel falls for Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, Belle's transformed Beast is called the Prince in Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin masquerades as Prince Ali. The voice of Prince Charming was provided by crooner and long-ago talk show host Mike Douglas.
Although her role is critical and the movie is named after her, Princess Aurora's part in Sleeping Beauty is actually smaller than that of Prince Phillip.
Prince Phillip is a departure from the two preceding princes - he has style, flair, humor - even his faithful horse has a name (Samson). Phillip was given voice by actor/singer Bill Shirley. Shirley also dubbed the vocal for the popular song, "On the Street Where You Live," for Jeremy Brett, in the film version of My Fair Lady (1964).
Mickey Mouse made his show business debut on November 18, 1928, along with Minnie, when Steamboat Willie opened at the Colony Theatre in New York. This was followed by a series of more that 100 Mickey cartoon features during the 1920's and 1930's. After appearing in The Simple Things in 1953, Mickey didn't return for 30 more years until the featurette, Mickey's Christmas Carol, followed by The Prince and the Pauper (1990), and most recently in the animated short Runaway Brain (1995).
Donald Duck first appeared in The Wise Little Hen, which debuted on June 9, 1934, which is also considered his official birthday.
Pluto made his debut as two bloodhounds in the Mickey Mouse short The Chain Gang (1930). In his second screen appearance, The Picnic (1930), he was Minnie's dog and his name was Rover. In The Moose Hunt (1931), he finally became Mickey's pal Pluto.
Mickey, Donald and Goofy first appeared together in Orphan's Benefit (1934). They would later star as a comic trio in a beloved series of shorts including Clock Cleaners (1937), Lonesome Ghosts (1937), Boat Builders (1938), and Mickey's Trailer (1938).
Goofy enjoyed a great comeback in 1992 with the premiere of his TV series, Goof Troop, followed by his own feature film, A Goofy Movie, in 1995.
Walt Disney was presented with an honorary Academy Award in 1932 for the creation of Mickey Mouse.
