He was a popular comic character, moving from "guest duck" status in the Donald Duck and Walt Disney's Comics and Stories comic books to his own magazine in 1952.
Scrooge McDuck's next screen appearance after Scrooge McDuck and Money was as Ebenezer Scrooge in the 1983 featurette Mickey's Christmas Carol. Uncle Scrooge was named after the famous Charles Dickens character.
Scrooge McDuck came to greater fame with the 1987 debut of the television series Duck Tales, which continues to air around the world. Scrooge was also featured in the 1990 feature film, Duck Tales: The Movie - Treasure of the Lost Lamp.
Bill Thompson, voice of many Disney characters, including Mr. Smee in Peter Pan (1953) and park ranger J. Audobon Woodlore in a series of popular shorts in the early 1950's, gave voice to Uncle Scrooge in Scrooge McDuck and Money. Alan Young, best known for TV's Mr. Ed, has been Scrooge's voice since 1983.
