Blues is a vocal and instrumental form of music that emerged in African-American communities of the US from spirituals and work songs. The blues influenced American popular music as it became part of the genres of jazz, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, hip-hop, and pop. Blues performers such as John Lee Hooker, BB King and Muddy Waters performed to enthusiastic audiences, inspiring new artists steeped in traditional blues. Some bands and artists who were inspired include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and countless others.
