Peter Simon Collection
Peter Simon has captured the Baby Boomer era through his journey in life. He is one of the few photographers out there that LIVED what he photographed. He has defined for America the Reggae culture, lifestyle and music. He has traveled and chronicled the Grateful Dead on assignment for Rolling Stone, shot album covers for James Taylor and Carly Simon, he shot the famous Madison Square Garden "No Nukes" Concert traveled and chronicled the New York Mets. Peter Simon has published ten books including "Reggae Bloodlines" (Bob Marley and Reggae Music) and "Playing in the Band" (The Grateful Dead). His life's journey was told in the coffee table book "I and Eye - Pictures of My Generation. He has had his work published in The Village Voice, The Cambridge Phoenix, The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, Time, Newsweek, New York Magazine and the New Age Journal. Peter is the photo editor and co-author to the new Raggae book "Roger Steffen's and Peter Simon's Reggae Scrapbook". Peter has photographed the best of the best in the arena of classic rock - Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Band, Sting, The Police, Muddy Waters and the Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1965 among others. The causes, the celebrities and defining moments of the Baby Boomer Generation have all been captured by Peter Simon's camera in the course of his journey from the 1960's to today. The Peter Simon Collection "the Lens of a Generation is a portfolio of artwork that highlights his life long devotion and appreciation of Reggae Music and Bob Marley as well as his documented work with the Grateful Dead. All images are hand signed and hand titled by Mr. Peter Simon. There are 11 images in the inaugural canvas edition. Each piece is on themed gallery Wrapped high quality 60/40 cotton poly long life canvas. Each Fine Art Giclee is created with pigmented 100 year inks, the longest lasting in the industry. Each piece is an edition size of only 175 pieces (17 Artist Proofs and 17 Publishers Proofs are also available. The collection also consists of 4 Paper pieces created from the master wholly owned negative and printed on imported acid free Somerset Rag hand made paper from the UK. Each piece is printed using long life imported inks in a process that utilizes over 3 million drops of ink per second to create these Fine Art Giclees. The edges are individually hand torn to create a Fine Art deckled edge. The editions are limited to only 275 pieces with 27 Artist Proofs and 27 Printer Proofs available. Peter Simon lives on Martha's Vineyard with wife Ronni and their son Willie and his monumental music collection of books and CD's. Peter is a leading photographer on Martha's Vineyard and his work on the landscape and the Island cam be seen everywhere on the Island. He lectures on his career across the US, dabbles in putting together Vineyard music compilations for companies like Rhino Records and is still taking photos to document his life's journey.
